Liar Liar, Pants A'fire

That's how we'd say it in the south. So, all that stuff re: fabulous vintage fabrics not being available and my search for fabulous non-vintage? Okay, well, I still think it's worth it, but I looked through my stash this evening, and then I looked on the Denyse Schmidt website, and I discovered that I had enough fabric to make this: dsbone

Which I'm making now ... instead of ironing something to wear tomorrow ... instead of taking my dog for a real walk this evening ... don't judge.

How is your stash organized? Mine are thrown haphazardly in a tower of plastic bin drawers.

Hey, Tina. I left you a comment on your blog with the answer!! Good work. It looks great! Keep making those baskets. 40 days until Christmas. Urgh.

Jen, It's me again. I'm getting hooked on your blog! Question for you....what kind of sewing machine do you use on quilts? I REALLY have an itch to start making some "modern" quilts but don't know if my old rickety sewing machine could handle it. I've never used it...my mother-in-law likes it but she just does basic stuff..no quilts/crafts.

Kelly, I use a Kenmore 3/4" sewing machine. It is far from top of the line. I think it cost $65 and I bought it because it's pink. Sad, but true. But, it's perfect for modern quilts because so much of the quilting is straight lines anyway. I had to buy some quilt clips to keep my fabric out of the way while I'm quilting a section, but it works like a dream.

Thanks for the sewing machine answer. I think I need to save some money and just try a quilt with the machine I have!

I LOVED your advice about Ethan on my blog! VERY good points. I have always been a rule follower too so I do go overboard in that respect. And, because Ethan is...brown (actually he has classified himself as orange)I want him to be particularly independent and strong. You're right -- he does need to be able to say no when appropriate. Thanks for giving me some great stuff to think about.

Back from Thanksgiving, but only sort of, because my belly is still distended ... or, maybe that's just fat! I'm so glad that my late night rantings meant something to you, Kelly. I really thought about what I was writing to you, so I'm glad to know that came through.

On another note, if you have a regular old sewing machine like I do, you should check out the Denyse Schmidt Quilts book, because all the quilts in there are straight-line and easy to do on a regular machine. Plus, they're beautiful. I'm going to see if I can figure out your email address from your site and send you the link to her book, and also to the fabric suppliers I love. If not, I'll post something on your blog site. If that doesn't work, I can send you a copy of Denyse's book for sure (I've got 6 of them!), and can mail you the info for good fabric stores that can ship to you. As always, best - j.
